Remedy and Remedy Ultra Are Not the Same Product
Two Corteva products share the Remedy name and carry the same 4 pounds of triclopyr acid per gallon. They hold separate EPA registrations, and the dairy grazing rule is genuinely different. Check the registration number on your container before you calculate anything.

Which one is in your shed
Read the EPA registration number off the container rather than the name on the front panel. 62719-70 is original Remedy, which contains petroleum distillates, is combustible, and keeps lactating dairy animals off treated ground until the next growing season. 62719-552 is Remedy Ultra, a different formulation with no dairy grazing restriction.
Everything else on this page, including every rate below, applies to whichever container you actually have only where its own label says so. A rate printed on a website has never overruled the booklet strapped to a jug.
How Much Remedy to Mix
There is no single Remedy rate. A pasture broadcast, a basal bark treatment and a cut stump use concentrations an order of magnitude apart, so the method decides the number before the acreage does.
Broadcast, broadleaf weeds
2 pints per acre
Mix in water and treat while the weeds are actively growing. Ground equipment should put out at least 10 gallons of total spray per acre. Aerial work runs at a minimum of 2 gallons per acre. Carrier volume is water, not extra herbicide, so raising it improves coverage through a thick stand without changing the rate.
Broadcast, woody plants
2 to 4 pints per acre
Wait until spring foliage has fully expanded and the fast early growth has slowed. Regrowth intended for broadcast treatment should generally be 4 feet or taller, since the plant needs enough leaf area to absorb the herbicide and carry it down into an established root system. Ground volume starts at 10 gallons per acre and goes up where foliage is deep.
Basal bark, stems under 6 inches
20% to 30% in oil
Spray the lower 12 to 15 inches of the stem and the root collar, the flared join where trunk meets soil, until thoroughly wet but not running off. Diesel, No. 1 or No. 2 fuel oil, kerosene and commercial basal oils all work as the carrier. An oil mix that has stood more than four hours needs agitating again before it goes on.
Cut stump
20 to 30 gallons per 100
Mix 20 to 30 gallons of product with enough oil to make 100 gallons of finished spray. Treat the root collar, the sides of the stump and the outer band of the cut face where the cambium sits. That thin living ring just inside the bark is what carries the herbicide, so flooding the dead center wood wastes product and leaves the resprouting tissue short.
Yucca
2% in diesel or fuel oil
Thirteen fluid ounces in 5 gallons of finished spray. Wet the center growing point and the leaf bases down to the soil surface. Coating every leaf is unnecessary and does nothing for control.
Sericea lespedeza
1 to 2 pints per acre
Timing carries this one. Treat after maximum foliage development in late spring to early summer, and before the plant blooms. Miss the window and the same rate performs noticeably worse.
Tropical soda apple
2 pints per acre
Apply at the first flower stage in 40 gallons of total spray per acre with ground equipment. Where the stand is sparse, a 1% to 1.5% solution in water applied to completely wet the foliage handles scattered plants without treating the whole field.
CRP acres
1 pint to 1.5 quarts
Smaller weeds take 1 to 2 pints per acre. Deep-rooted perennials and susceptible woody species go up to 1.5 quarts. No more than 1.5 quarts per acre may go on CRP ground in one growing season, and the conservation program rules that apply to the contract sit on top of that.
Fill the tank in this order
- 1.Put water in the tank first, then add the oil-based Remedy premix. Reversing that order makes a thick water-in-oil emulsion that is very hard to break.
- 2.Start agitation with roughly half the water you need, add compatible materials in the labeled order, then finish filling.
- 3.Keep agitation running through the application, not just during filling.
- 4.Jar test an unfamiliar tank mix in proportional amounts first. Flakes, sludge, gels, films or separated layers mean the combination is incompatible.
- 5.Rinse the sprayer thoroughly afterward. Residue left in a tank can injure broadleaf crops on a later job with a completely unrelated product.
Water, oil, or both
Foliar Remedy goes into water or into an oil-water emulsion. For woody plants the emulsion performs more consistently across a wider range of conditions than straight water, which is why it turns up on brush jobs where a water mix has already disappointed someone.
Ground applications put oil at 5% to 10% of the finished spray, capped at 1 gallon of oil per acre. Aerial work uses a 1:5 oil-to-water ratio under the same 1 gallon per acre ceiling.
A compatible agricultural surfactant can go into a water dilution at its own labeled rate to help the spray wet the foliage. More is not better. Excess additive changes droplet behavior, plant response and tank compatibility all at once.

Finding a plant on a control list is not a promise that one pass finishes it. Suppression means the plant is set back, not killed. Top-growth control means the visible part dies and the crown or root system is still alive underneath. Most complaints about brush coming back trace to one of those two entries being read as a full kill.
Will Remedy Kill My Grass?
Established grasses are considerably more tolerant of triclopyr than the broadleaf vegetation Remedy targets, and that gap is the entire reason the product exists. Brush comes out of a pasture without the pasture coming out with it.
Grass that is not yet established is a different matter. A newly seeded stand can be injured before it has tillered and put down secondary roots, so give a treated area at least three weeks before you reseed it. Bermudagrass can also show injury during very high air temperatures.
Clover is the one that catches people out. It appears on the susceptible weed list, so broadcast Remedy across a pasture and the clover in it goes with the brush. Keeping a legume component and broadcasting Remedy are incompatible objectives, and individual plant treatment is the way to have both.
Remedy is not a lawn weed killer
Selective on pasture grass does not mean selective on a maintained lawn. Remedy is labeled for rangeland, permanent grass pasture and CRP acres, and a residential lawn is not among them. Anyone comparing it against a three-way broadleaf lawn product such as Gordon's Trimec is comparing two different jobs: one clears woody brush off working acreage, the other cleans broadleaf weeds out of turf. Pick by the site you are standing on.
Where Remedy Belongs
Labeled use sites
- Rangeland carrying scattered brush or a mature mixed stand
- Established permanent grass pasture losing ground to woody plants
- Conservation Reserve Program acres on an established grass stand
- Fence rows inside those approved sites
- Non-irrigation ditch banks inside those approved sites
Keep it away from
- Water, ground with surface water standing on it, and intertidal areas below the mean high-water mark
- Cotton, grapes, peanuts, soybeans, tobacco, vegetable crops and citrus
- Flower beds, ornamental plantings and any desirable broadleaf plant
- Clover or another legume you want to keep in the forage stand
- Newly seeded grass that has not yet tillered and rooted
- Anywhere upwind of a neighbor crop during a temperature inversion
Match the method to the density
Broadcast treatment earns its keep when susceptible brush occupies enough ground to justify covering all of it. Ten unwanted trees scattered across a clean pasture do not qualify.
Basal bark treatment concentrates herbicide around individual stems without cutting them first. Cut-stump treatment suits vegetation already coming out mechanically that would resprout otherwise. High-volume foliar handles isolated brush carrying enough leaf area for full coverage. Remedy lets you move between all four without changing the active ingredient.
Fence lines and ditch banks
Trees, vines and brush swallow fence-line access long before the pasture behind it needs attention. Both of those boundary features are approved treatment areas as long as they fall inside a labeled rangeland, pasture or CRP site, and going plant by plant keeps herbicide off everything growing nearby.
Non-irrigation ditch bank means the bank, not the water. Remedy is toxic to fish and never goes into a ditch, a pond or ground with surface water standing on it.
How Fast Remedy Works
Weeks, not days
Triclopyr acts like a massive overdose of the plant growth hormone auxin. Treated plants twist, distort and grow abnormally before they die, and that whole sequence can take weeks on woody species. A locust still holding green leaves four days after treatment has not shrugged it off.
Foliage has to be working
Drought-stressed plants, frost-damaged leaves, hail damage, insect feeding and disease all cut down how much herbicide a plant can absorb and move. Wait for growing conditions to improve rather than raising the rate on a stressed stand.
Mesquite is fussier than most
Broadcast performance on mesquite depends on foliage maturity, soil temperature and soil moisture together. New leaves should have turned from light green to dark green, and there should be enough soil moisture for the plant to be actively growing.
Basal and cut stump run almost year round
Neither method needs a full leaf canopy, so both stay available through winter. What stops them is snow or standing water blocking access to the ground line, or bark saturated with water.
Coverage should be thorough without running off. Liquid dripping onto the soil is spray you paid for that never entered a plant, and it widens the area where something you wanted to keep can pick it up.

The dairy line is the one worth reading twice, because it is the clearest place the two formulations diverge. Check which registration you are holding before you rely on either set of intervals.
Handling Remedy Safely
What the signal word means here
Remedy carries CAUTION. The concentrate causes moderate eye irritation, is harmful if swallowed, and can produce an allergic skin reaction in some people after prolonged or repeated contact. Keep it out of reach of children.
What to wear
Handlers need a long-sleeved shirt, long pants, waterproof gloves, and shoes with socks. Protective eyewear belongs in the original Remedy precautions. Clean the equipment the way its maker specifies and wash it separately from household laundry.
Children and pets
Remedy should not be described as safe around children and pets. Keep both away from mixing and application entirely. On non-agricultural uses, unprotected people stay out of the treated area until sprays have dried. Store it so a pet cannot reach concentrate, spray mix or contaminated water.
Getting back on the ground
Agricultural uses under the Worker Protection Standard carry a restricted-entry interval of 12 hours, which is how long the treated area stays closed. Early entry inside that window requires coveralls, waterproof gloves, shoes with socks and protective eyewear.
Water
Remedy is toxic to fish and is not an aquatic herbicide. It never goes directly into water, onto ground with surface water present, or into intertidal areas below the mean high-water mark. Equipment washing and rinsate disposal have to stay clear of waterways. Permeable soil over a shallow water table raises the groundwater risk.
Drift and volatility
A very small amount landing off target injures susceptible plants. Use enough pressure for coverage without producing a fine mist, since larger droplets travel less. Spray that lands on pavement or another impervious surface can volatilize as temperatures climb, which puts grapes and tomatoes downwind at risk hours after the sprayer has gone.
Storage
Keep Remedy in its original container, away from food, animal feed, seed and water supplies. Store above 28°F, and agitate the product before use if it has been through lower temperatures. Original Remedy contains petroleum distillates and is combustible, so keep that formulation away from heat and open flame.
Tank mixing
GrazonNext HL is the partner Corteva names for broadening brush control and picking up understory broadleaf weeds. Mixing does not override either label. Every ingredient has to be registered for the site, timing and method, and wherever two labels disagree the more restrictive direction wins.

About Remedy
Remedy is part of the Corteva Agriscience range and pasture herbicide portfolio, sitting alongside GrazonNext HL, DuraCor and Chaparral. Corteva became an independent agriculture company in 2019, bringing together businesses with roots in Dow, DuPont and Pioneer. Older containers and a good deal of the agricultural literature still carry the Dow AgroSciences name, which is why the product predates the company currently printed on the jug.
What has not moved in all that time is the job. Woody plants and broadleaf weeds come off working land without the land being cleared mechanically and reseeded. A brush cutter treats an acre of grass and an acre of mesquite the same way. Triclopyr does not.
That selectivity comes from how the chemistry behaves in a plant rather than from where the nozzle points. Triclopyr is a Group 4 synthetic auxin: susceptible plants absorb it and it acts like a crippling overdose of a natural growth hormone, producing distorted growth that eventually kills them. Grasses process it very differently, which is why an established stand carries on.
Remedy also has real limits worth knowing before the first jug arrives. It is not a lawn product, not an aquatic herbicide, and not safe for the clover in a mixed pasture. Several labeled species get suppression or top-growth control rather than a kill. Almost every disappointing result traces to one of those, or to spraying a plant that was too stressed to move the herbicide anywhere.

Remedy Ultra is a triclopyr herbicide built for woody plants and broadleaf weeds in grass-based land management. Yes, and susceptible trees and woody brush are its primary target. Three routes are available. Foliar treatment works once the plant is fully leafed out. Basal bark treatment goes on the lower stem of standing plants under 6 inches in basal diameter. Cut-stump treatment handles vegetation being removed mechanically that would otherwise resprout. Susceptibility varies by species, so check the specific plant before treating it.

Foliar treatments want target weeds actively growing and woody species fully leafed out. Hold off on drought-stressed plants until growing conditions improve. Rates generally move toward the higher end of the labeled range as the season advances and plants mature. Basal and cut-stump individual plant treatments have a far wider window and stay usable through most of the year, as long as snow or standing water is not blocking the ground line.

Yes, and fence-line brush control is one of the core uses Corteva identifies. Individual plant treatment suits a fence line well, because scattered woody plants can be targeted without treating the pasture around them. The same approach catches brush pushing outward from an unmanaged boundary before it turns into a full pasture infestation.
Both are on the controlled species list. Application follows the labeled method and rate for the treatment site. Treating the plant does nothing about the urushiol on it during application, so the usual precautions against skin contact still apply while you are spraying.
Read the complete label before mixing and wear the required protective equipment. Keep spray off desirable broadleaf plants and other sensitive vegetation outside the treatment area, since very small amounts of drift cause injury. Keep people and animals away from the application. Follow every entry, grazing and livestock restriction on the current label. State restrictions apply and registration is not identical everywhere. General advice found online is not a substitute for the label attached to the container being used.

Name the Plant, Then Pick the Method
Identify the species first, as closely as you can. Measure the area, or the stem, depending on which one you are treating. The method follows from those two answers, and the rate follows from the method. Calibrate the sprayer before it gets filled, not after.
